Support Weekend Backpacks' Mission while Enjoying Great Food
Chefs' Challenge -a fun food event to support the mission of Weekend Backpacks and honor the contributions of Saval Foods.
Our 2025 Chefs’ Event will feature local restaurants and caterers in a cooking challenge similar to the Food Network’s program “Chopped." We will be supplying the chefs with the main food ingredients that make up our weekly bags. Their CHALLENGE will be to create delicious recipes by embellishing the products we provide to the students with seasonings, spices, protein and imagination. Each chef will prepare tasting-size portions of their creations for our limited number of attendees to enjoy. Last year we heard RAVE reviews about this event and we are hoping this one will be even bigger and better!
This year, Weekend Backpacks is proud to honor Saval Foods. In 1932, Harry Saval began cooking corned beef from the back of a Baltimore warehouse. He strived to produce, and distribute, the best deli in Baltimore. Over nine decades later Saval Foods has grown into the largest locally based, independently owned, broad-line foodservice distributor in Maryland, still serving delicious meats and a vast array of other products. Saval Foods has always supported Weekend Backpacks, as philanthropy is part of their DNA. They are grateful for their Baltimore roots and continue to serve the community they proudly call home.
